DM: Vincent, Having left Your former home in the frostmarch, you have opted to travel by ship through the great void. (a mass of treacherous ocean located in the center of the four great continents). Halfway through your voyage you wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat to the earie feeling of a ghostly presence surrounding you. As the presence begins to fade away you can feel the ship violently rocking back and forth and hear the sound of crashing waves and thunder. Having instinctively rushed out on deck to get a handle on the situation you see the captain at the helm of the ship laughing wildly with a strong sense of pride and enthusiasm in his voice. "The lady of the void is a worthy foe this night!" he yells with excitement while barking orders at his crew members. What do you do?
Vincent Northwind: Captain is there anything i can do to help!!!
DM: The Captain glances at you briefly, "Aye lad! some o' me crew members have been injured, perhaps some of them divine magicks o' yers could save some lives this night! Ye'll find em below deck in the third door on yer left!" he yells having recalled some of the spells you casted several days ago to heal him and deem him fit to fare the seas once more.
Vincent Northwind: okay first i cast bless on the crew on the deck and then go below and heal 2 crew members
Vincent Northwind: the crew members on the deck now have +1 to all saving throws
Vincent Northwind: what happens now?
DM: after casting bless you go below deck and enter the room per the captains instructions and see 7 human highlanders lying in crudely made bedding lined about the room wearing tattered clothing and dressed in bandages. while 4 of them appear to have been stablized the remaining 3 are indubitably in critical condition. If they are not treated soon they will surely die. 2 Sailors are present, restlessly mending the wounds of one while the others remain unattended.
Vincent Northwind: i heal the unattended ones with cure light wounds and then i will assist the sailors with the final wounded man heal check 12+7=19
DM: your first cure light wounds cures 5 points of damage and the second cures for 8. Both of the wounded men are now stable and rest peacefully. With your assistance the one being treated is now also stable. The two sailors thank you for your help "I was sure we were going to lose them until you came along!"
Vincent Northwind: "glad to help salior now if you need anymore help come get me, then i will return to the deck to speak with captain about what i know of marylweb if there is no other choice we might have to appease her"
DM: You also notice their wounds appear to have been inflicted by some sort of clawed beast
Vincent Northwind: well then i ask if the sailors know what happened to them
Vincent Northwind: before i go up on deck
DM: "we're not sure what happened, but while concious, they kept muttering something about a pitch black featureless beast that appeared on deck. But Nobody else saw any such thing."
Vincent Northwind: okay once on deck i cast detect magic and scan the deck
Vincent Northwind: also i use a perception check 19+3=22
DM: Your detect magic reveals a magical aura on the left side of the ship just out of the captain's line of sight. You cannot however see the source of the aura, but a group of 4 Sailors in that area appear to be fighting something as if there is an invisible foe.
Vincent Northwind: I run to the sailors in what looks like combat
Vincent Northwind: mace at the ready
DM: a sudden chill runs down your spine as the air around you appears to warp and ripple and a loud screech reverberates in your mind. A slender looking pitch black beast with 12" long claws on its front legs, crawling on all fours appears to materialize into existence and it looks straight at you with pale white glowing eyes. (will save: 17+5=22) you muster your courage against the beast, battle ready.
Vincent Northwind: 14 for initiative
DM: As the creature lunges forward at you swinging both of its claws, 2 of the sailors take the opportunity to strike with their cutlasses, One hits its mark dealing 13 points of critical damage. You dodge both attacks as the creature goes flying past you and tumbles on the ground. The creature staggers on it's feet readying its next attack. what do you do?
Vincent Northwind: as a swift action i cast cold aura dealing 5 cold damage (fort save to half the damage) and then i make my attack 19+4=23 to hit 12 damage
DM: Your cold aura deals 2 damage and your mace smashes into the foul beasts head and crushes it. After making a faint screech the beast's form melts away and seeps into the wooden planks of the ship's floor. The sailors immediately go back to tending the ship before regarding you with a thankful gesture. One remarks how he has never seen such a fiendish creature in all his years.
DM: also 75 experience points for slaying the monster
Vincent Northwind: i move to address the captain of the situation "captain did you know that you had a giant shadow beast on your deck
DM: "I thought some o' me crew had been acting strange... Some ran clear across the deck in fear as if something was chasin em, while others started flailing their weapons around. This gives me a bad feeling." The storm seems to rage on even more violently as he talks. "Damn it all, She really is a stubborn one this night."
Vincent Northwind: "captain there is something we can do to quell her fury marylweb will calm her seas if a seasoned sailor willfully jumps into her embrace. if there is no other way i suggest we take this course of action. but in the end captain it is your decision"
DM: "Aye lad!" The captain Shouts loudly at one of his Sailors. "Alimir! Come ere!" After a moment you see an elvish man making his way to you and the captain. He stands nearly a head and a half shorter than the other Highlands sailors and has broad shoulders and a stocky looking build, his skin pale white and hair a silvery gray. Turning back to regard you the captain explains. "Had it not been fer you I'd have never been able to fare the seas again. I think It only fitting that I go to be with her now. I leave this fine vessel in your hands. Alimir, You will be his second in command. Whilst the ship is without him Keep er in good company, and keep those damned idiot crew members in line." Alimir bows his head respectfully in regards to the captain "May the lady of the void embrace you captain. Farewell."
Vincent Northwind: "captain your sacrifice saves the lives of your crew and fear not i will get them to safety and see that they are never without a ship to sail or without a purpose farewell captain"
DM: The captain gives you a hearty salute before plunging into the depths of the void. The crew looks to the horizon in awe as the waves become calm and the storm passes. Several days pass by as you arrive in port arimn along the northern coast of terre.
DM: as you dock and leave your ship you suddenly feel unexpected breezes and faint noises. A presence of spirits begins to swell in the area around you. You're barely able to make out that they are leading you in a specific direction. As if in a trance you follow them into town and are led to the Mermaid's Fin Tavern. Inside you see many patrons sitting at all the tables and bar having drinks, feasting and all around being merry. The spirits however all seem to be gathering around a very large behemoth of a man shrouded in a green cloak with a battle axe and shield at his side. The spirits become very loud. All of the sudden you hear blood curtling screams and the sound of slaughter. The noise becomes nearly unbearable as it continues to get louder and louder then suddenly stops. You now feel drawn by curiosity to this very large man at the bar.
Vincent Northwind : i walk up with 2 drinks and ask the man if the seat next to him is taken
DM: He turns to you and makes a faint grunting sound before waving his hand to the seat, inviting you to sit with him.
Vincent Northwind: i sit down "thank you friend, now i know this might sound funny but i have been plagued by spirits for as long as i can remember and they have always lead me down paths that i must follow, and today they have lead me to you. so my question to you is why would they bring me to an imposing figure like yourself."
DM: "Hrmm very interesting. Perhaps an introduction is in order" his voice has a very beastlike tone. "I am Zanian"
Vincent Northwind: how rude of me Zanian i am Vincent Northwind priest of Jorgfir
Zanian Tumblebelly: Grumbles at the intrusion "And I am Zanian Tumble belly paladin of Baernan. I do not know why any spirit would lead you to a cursed soul like me." emphasizing the word "Cursed" with a long take of dwarven ale.
Zanian Tumblebelly [ooc]: Unlike other bugbears his fur is trimmed and on his face he has a beard close to the style that gnomish men wear as well as a scar that runs ear to ear over his eyes.
DM: yeah, btw vincent you now notice he is a bugbear.
Vincent Northwind: Zanian neither of us knows why these spirits lead me to you but i do know it was for a purpose whether it was for me to help you with your curse or some other purpose and they will not let me forget this and they will lead me back to you time and time again
Zanian Tumblebelly: "then take joy in beinging near a God Cursed man" and finishes the ale
Vincent Northwind: i get the bartenders attention "another drink for me and my new friend here. it seems we are one in the same cursed by the Gods"
Zanian Tumblebelly: "what brings another cursed being like yourself to" his voice fills with emotion "such a wonderful place"
Vincent Northwind: "my home in faustholm was no longer welcoming to me so i decided i would travel south in hope of finding a way to cleanse myself. "
Zanian Tumblebelly: Muttering under his breath "more like a place to add to the filth"
DM: ok in the midst of your conversation you are suddenly interrupted by the sound of a midlander woman screaming and bursting into the bar. She runs up to one of the patrons with a terrified look on her face. "Help me! some of the towns people have gone mad and started attacking my family!" she paces frantically around the room unsure of what to do. Outside you can hear the sound of the town guards struggling to bring order to what sounds like a riot. The patron that the woman ran to calmly walks out of the tavern, quarterstaff drawn.
Zanian Tumblebelly: Stands up and places the shield on one hand and wields his battle axe in the other and follows the patron
Vincent Northwind: I walk calmly out of the bar with no weapons drawn

At this point we started an ooVoo session during which the party helped the town guard in port arimn in quelling a riot that suddenly broke out inthe streets. Afterwards a robed man met with the party to discuss the attack and the possible involvment of the cultists of atreezu and enlisted their help in investigating attack.
The players then opted to take the road south out of port arimn and traveled to some ancient ruins where a shrine of atreezu was belived to have exist within. on the road they encountered gibberlings which they easily fought off.
After arriving at the shrine they encountered cultists within and defeated them.
Session 1 end.
